Governments pay you to stop burning fuel
Geothermal saves the grid from peak demand, so federal, state, and utility programs pay to make installs cheaper. Here is what applies on each side of the Potomac. We file all of it for you.
Everyone, both states
The federal 30% comes first
30%
Federal residential clean energy credit, through 2034
A credit on your taxes, not a deduction: a $25,000 system returns $7,500. It applies to the whole installed cost, loop included, and steps down later in the decade, so earlier installs keep the full rate.
By state
Maryland stacks. Virginia keeps it simple.
Maryland
The best geothermal money in the region
- REC income for 8+ years, paid for the clean energy your loop produces
- $1,000-$4,000 / yr
- state grant per residential system
- $3,000
- sales tax on geothermal equipment
- 0%
- federal credit stacks on all of it
- 30%
Virginia
Fewer programs, same 70% bill cut
Virginia leans on the federal credit and utility-level programs rather than state grants. The 30% credit still takes the largest bite out of the price, and some cooperatives and utilities add rebates that change year to year.
The savings case in Virginia rests on the bills themselves: cutting heating and cooling costs by up to 70%, every year, for 25+ years.
We check the current utility programs for your address as part of every Virginia proposal.

We file the paperwork, you keep the money
Every incentive above is claimed as part of the install. Nothing lands on your to-do list.
