Savings & incentives

What going geothermal pays you, by state

Same equipment on both sides of the Potomac. Very different money. Hover your state.

Both states also qualify for the 30% federal Investment Tax Credit on the full installed cost. Your proposal shows the exact math for your address.

How it works

From first visit to a running system in four steps

The ground under your yard stays around 55°F all year. A geothermal heat pump moves that steady heat into your home in winter and out of it in summer. Most projects run about two weeks door to door.

Typical timeline: 2 weeks

  1. 1

    Site survey & energy audit

    Week 1

We walk your property, review your utility bills, and confirm your yard can host the loop field. You get a straight answer on day one, including whether geothermal is wrong for your site.

  2. 2

    Custom loop design

    Week 1-2

Our LoopLink certified designers size the ground loop and equipment to your home's actual heat load, not a rule of thumb. The design is engineered for the geology under your lot.

  3. 3

    Drilling & loop installation

    1-2 days on site

Our own drilling crews bore the wells and set the U-loop pipe, typically in one to two days. We have installed over a million miles of loop pipe across Virginia and Maryland.

  4. 4

    Equipment install & startup

    2-3 days on site

WaterFurnace factory trained installers set the heat pump, connect the loop, and commission the system. We register your warranty and file your incentive paperwork before we leave.

Why us

Geothermal is all we do, and we do every part of it ourselves

Most HVAC companies sell geothermal as a sideline and rent a drilling rig when they land a job. We are the opposite: a geothermal specialist with our own designers, drillers, and installers, fluent in the geology from the Blue Ridge to the Chesapeake. That is why other contractors call us when their projects get complicated.

I've kept meticulous records and the average monthly utility bill has been $175 for a 5,000 sq ft home. That includes heating, AC, hot water, lights and appliances. Big fan of WaterFurnace and of this crew.

Crew drilled two wells, trenched, and left the yard so clean you can't tell where they worked. First winter without a propane delivery in 22 years.

Three companies told us our old geo unit couldn't be fixed. These guys repaired it in one visit and replaced it two years later when it was actually time. Zero pressure either way.

The REC checks are real. First quarterly payment arrived four months after startup, on top of a house that finally holds 71 degrees everywhere.

From site survey to startup in 12 days. The design lead walked us through the loop math like we were colleagues, not marks. Proposal price was the final price.

Swapped a 30 year old oil furnace for a 5 Series. House is quieter, no more fuel truck, and February's bill was a third of last year's. Should have done it a decade ago.

FAQ

The things every homeowner asks first

Something else on your mind? Call 571-933-3123 and ask a designer directly.

What does a geothermal system cost?

Most single-family installs in our area land between $25,000 and $45,000 before incentives. In Maryland, the 30% federal credit, the $3,000 state grant, and REC payments routinely cover more than half of that. Your proposal shows the exact math for your address before you commit to anything.

Does it really work in a Virginia or Maryland winter?

Yes. Six feet down, the ground holds about 55°F even in January. The system pulls heat from that steady reserve, so output does not drop off the way an air-source heat pump's does on the coldest nights. No backup fuel needed for a properly sized system.

Will drilling wreck my yard?

A vertical loop needs a work area of roughly a parking space per borehole for a day or two. We trench the connections, backfill, and reseed. By the next season you will not find the wells without our map.

How long does the system last?

The indoor unit is rated for 25 years or more, roughly double a conventional furnace or AC. The ground loop itself carries a 50 year warranty and typically outlives the house's second roof.

My geothermal system was installed by someone else. Will you service it?

Yes. We repair and maintain every geothermal brand, and a large share of our service work is fixing systems that other companies installed or gave up on.

Can I finance it?

Yes. We offer financing options that let the monthly payment sit at or below what you save on utilities, so most owners are cash-flow positive from the first month. Details come with your proposal.
